Differential Mode Inductor, also known as differential mode choke, is generally made of core materials such as iron powder core, sendust, permalloy and iron-silicon alloy. It is a component wound with a single set of windings, mainly used to suppress differential mode electromagnetic interference in circuits. Featuring the property of passing DC and blocking AC, it realizes energy storage, filtering and signal shaping functions. As a core component for suppressing differential mode interference in EMC design, it can form a complete EMI filter network when used together with common mode inductors. Its rated current ranges from 0.5A to 100A, and inductance value is 1μH~10mH (mostly between 10μH and 1mH). It is a two-pin device with insulation class up to Class F and above. It boasts strong anti-saturation capability, low power loss, high stability and wide application compatibility.

Product Features

 

• Strong anti-saturation capability: The core uses magnetic materials with excellent anti-saturation performance (primarily iron powder and FeSiAl / Sendust cores). These materials feature a distributed air gap characteristic, which allows the inductance to remain stable under high DC bias conditions, effectively avoiding issues such as a sharp drop in inductance or failure of interference suppression caused by core saturation under high current conditions.

• Simple structure: It consists of a single winding wound on a single core, offering a straightforward design without complex symmetrical winding requirements. The appearance is mostly a two-pin package with a compact size. Compared to common mode inductors, it has lower manufacturing difficulty and greater cost advantages.

FAQ

 

Q: Is higher differential mode inductance always better?

A: No. The inductance shall be selected and calculated according to power, current, frequency and ripple. Insufficient inductance leads to poor filtering; excessive inductance causes large voltage drop and easy saturation.
