Q: Is the high output voltage of neon sign power transformers dangerous?
A: Neon sign power transformers are typically epoxy-encapsulated with no exposed copper wires. They are usually mounted on PCBs with low output current. Therefore, there is no danger as long as the transformer is not touched during operation.
Q: Why are neon sign power transformers generally encapsulated with epoxy resin?
A: After curing, epoxy resin features a dielectric strength of typically 20–22 kV/mm, much higher than that of air. Combined with vacuum potting during manufacturing, it fully fills gaps between coils, magnetic cores and housings, fundamentally eliminating high-voltage leakage and arcing caused by dust, moisture or air ionization, thus extending product service life.
The secondary winding of neon sign power transformers usually adopts ultra-fine wire. Epoxy potting enhances waterproof, dustproof and shockproof performance, further improving product stability.
